Friends of the Society
Dear Sponsor , Reference: Friends of the Society of Hypertension
The Southern African Hypertension Society (SAHS) has been through tough times in recent years, but in the last few years we have made important decisions to place the Society on a sound footing, and promote the ideals of the society namely improved care of people living with hypertension through education, training and research.
In the past few years we have achieved the following:
1. Appointment of a management company to ensure professional administration of SAHS
2. Revised our constitution
3. Published the Hypertension Guideline 2011
4. Held a successful congress in Cape Town
5. Completely revamped the web site making the society visible, and offering resources for both lay and professional people
We plan to have a campaign centred around the critical issue of adolescent pre-hypertension and hypertension, which is a major health problem that is reaching epidemic proportions amongst our young people. This epidemic has far reaching consequences for the health of the nation, and there is an urgent need to promote healthy lifestyles and train health professional in the assessment and management of these young people.
We also plan to develop a hypertension specialist programme to promote the implementation of guideline based treatment of patients with hypertension.
Of course this all takes money, and conferences are no longer a model for financial sustainability. At our recent board meeting it was decided to introduce the idea of the Friends of the Society, and we are appealing to companies and organization to join the Friends of the Society as part of their corporate social responsibility. We are offering Gold and Silver membership for R25000 and R10000 respectively. Your company logos will be displayed in the Health Professionals section (which is password protected and not visible to the public) to avoid any regulatory conflict.
We also requesting donations from individuals as well who may be interested in helping promote the ideals of the Society. These individuals will be listed with the amounts donated and will be on the open website.
For any further information please contact Caro Ackerman at caro@soafrica.com, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
President
